This information is applicable to Hewlett Packard, Canon, and Lexmark inkjet cartridges that include the print head on the cartridge.

Installation Instructions
1. Remove the empty cartridge from your printer.
2. If applicable, carefully remove the plastic clip from the replacement cartridge.
3. If applicable, carefully remove two pieces of protective tape covering the ink nozzle and maze hole.
Note: Some cartridges only have one piece of tape.
CAUTION: DO NOT TOUCH THE INK NOZZLE OR COPPER CONTACTS.
4. Carefully install replacement cartridge into the printers cradle.
Note: For detailed instructions refer to your printer manual or printer software.

Troubleshooting Tips

If printer problems occur:
Perform up to three cleaning cycles and a prime cycle, if applicable, using your printer software.   For detailed instructions refer to your printer manual or printer software.

If the cleaning cycles fail to produce a quality print:
It may be necessary to prime the cartridge.
1. Hold the cartridge (nozzle down) and place on a paper towel moistened with warm water. Let sit for 1-2 minutes, then place the cartridge on a dry paper towel until the ink begins to seep from the cartridge.
2. Remove debris and dried ink from the replacement cartridge nozzle plate with a damp cotton swab. DO NOT wipe the nozzle plate. Use distilled or filtered water only.
3. Re-install the cartridge and perform cleaning cycles as instructed above.

For H.P. 51626A, 51629A: After cleaning your cartridge, if your pages still show streaks, remove the cartridge and place the print head over several layers of paper towel. Now put an ordinary plastic drinking straw tightly over the white vent hole located on the top of the cartridge.

Blow into the straw. This will force ink out of the print head and may help remove any clogging. Be careful not to get any ink on your hands or clothes. It is hard to remove! Blot the print head so it's not dripping, before reinstalling the cartridge.

For cartridges with no vent hole on top: After cleaning, if your pages still show streaks, remove the cartridge and hold several layers of paper towel against the print head. Quickly and forcefully move your hand downward as if you were throwing a ball against the ground. DON'T LET GO OF THE CARTRIDGE! Do this several times and you should see ink appearing in the paper towels. Reinstall the cartridge.

I need a C1823A. All you list is a C1823D. Are they the same?
HP changed the part number on the C1823A to C1823D in 1999.  The reason for this change was the release of the low-capacity "G" series cartridges.  HP wanted to use the "A" designation for Hi-Capacity (40ml) ink cartridges only.  Because the C1823A does not contain 40ml of ink, they changed the part number to C1823D. The cartridge itself is exactly the same, the only difference is the part number.

My printer came with a 51626G, 51629G or 51645G cartridge. Why can't I find them at InkJets.Com?

HP "G" series cartridges i.e. 51626G, 51629G, and 51645G are starter cartridges that are shipped with a new printer.  These "G" series cartridges  are identical in size and shape to the original "A" series cartridges, yet they contain only 1/2 the amount of ink than the original "A" series cartridges contain.
Buying 2 "G" series cartridges will normally cost between $10-$20 more than buying one "A" series cartridge yet the amount of ink you get is the same.  This was just another way for HP to boost their profits.
So, the next time you see a super low price on these HP cartridges, make sure you are not getting the "G" series cartridge.
We do carry the "A" series cartridges, shown below

51626A   replaces 51626G
51629A   replaces 51629G
51645A   replaces 51645G

Why am I getting non-sense characters on my printouts?
Why is a blank page printing instead of my print job?

The answer to both of these questions could be the same. It could be that you have a scanner connected between your printer and PC. It could be a bad cable or printer port. Click here for instructions on how to fix unexpected printout issues.
