Festivus is a secular holiday celebrated on December 23 as an alternative to the pressures and commercialism of the Christmas season. Author Daniel O'Keefe created this holiday. Seinfeld featured Festivus in a 1997 episode entitled "The Strike".
Over time, it became a parody holiday festival and as a form of playful consumer resistance. Thus, to celebrate Festivus, Printable Learning offers this fun activity book that features the practices and celebrations related to Festivus. For example, the airing of grievances occurs during the meal. In this practice, each person tells everyone else all the ways they have disappointed them over the past year.
As an ode to non-commercialism, the main decoration for this festival is an unadorned steel pole. Also, other activities include sharing the meal and playing "Feats of Strength." Check out Printable Learning's Free Festivus Activity Book to know more about this alternative holiday!
