Here's how to install a new ink cartridge in your HP Photosmart C4685 printer:

Make sure the printer is turned on, then open the print cartridge door. The cartridge holder should move to the center of the printer.
When the cartridge holder is idle and silent, release the used ink cartridge and remove it from the printer.
Take the new ink cartridge out of its packaging. Remove the protective tape from the new cartridge without touching the ink nozzles and copper contacts.
Slide the new ink cartridge in the empty slot, pushing it until it clicks into place.
Close the print cartridge door.
