OEM vs Remanufactured Ink

Genuine OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) cartridges are high-priced name-brand ink cartridges that are sold online and at office supply stores like Office Depot and Staples. These are sold under the well-known printer brands, such as Canon, HP, Brother, Epson and so on.

STARTER CARTRIDGES

An original ink cartridge is often provided with each printer sold, though these "starter" cartridges are actually filled with very little ink. There is just enough ink to help get your printer set up and to print relatively few pages. Before you know it, you will have no ink left, and are forced to replace your ink cartridge with a new one at an extremely high purchase price.

While this is frustrating for the consumer, this is big business for the printer companies. They make more money with the ink cartridges sold than the printers themselves. In fact, many manufacturers sell their printers at a loss just to gain customers for their ink cartridge business. It actually makes business sense for the big brands to lose money on the sales of printers because the manufacturer makes so much more money on the many cartridges the customer will have to buy.

What the original equipment manufacturers don't want consumers to know, is that shoppers don't have to spend their hard earned money on overpriced ink cartridges.

High quality aftermarket ink cartridges are available at much lower prices, and filled with ink that must pass a rigorous quality test process, ensuring only ink that meets very high standards is used.

Inkjets.com is the leading supplier of low cost, high quality aftermarket imaging supplies.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A COMPATIBLE INK OR TONER CARTRIDGE AND A NEW INK CARTRIDGE?

Compatible ink and toner printer cartridges are exact copies of the original manufacturer cartridge, often containing even more ink but at a lower cost than those offered by the big name brand printer companies. As the name suggests, these low cost ink cartridges are fully compatible with the printers they are designed for, and will not void your printer's warranty.

Inkjets.com thinks that consumers should have a say in what ink they use rather than being forced to purchase expensive ink cartridges at whatever sales prices the printer companies decide.

Can you imagine being told by your car manufacturer that you need to use only their branded gasoline in your vehicle? Would you be ok spending hundreds of dollars just to have your gas tank refilled?

That's exactly what's happening to consumers who unknowingly spend way too much money on an ink cartridge recommended by printer manufacturers, rather than shop online with us and save big.

Inkjets.com only carries the highest quality ink and toner cartridges and we are extremely proud that our company has the best customer service team in the industry! With fast delivery including same day shipping and regular coupon discounts on top of our everyday low prices, it's no wonder we have thousands of 5 star reviews from satisfied customers!

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COMPATIBLE AND REMANUFACTURED INK AND TONER?

A remanufactured ink cartridge uses the actual plastic or case of the original OEM cartridge. It is then recycled or "remanufactured" into a new product. The used cartridge is cleaned, refilled with third-party ingredients, thoroughly tested, and resold to customers at a lower price.

WHAT IS THE LEAST EXPENSIVE PRINTER INK OR TONER?

INK VS. TONER

Your printing needs will determine which ink or toner is the best value. If you print hundreds of pages per day, toner is a better alternative than ink because it is less expensive per page.

MULTIPLE CARTRIDGES

If you're looking for printers for general home usage, it's best to get one which uses two cartridges: one color and one black. This will help to keep the cost low.

If you want to print a large volume of high-resolution images, you'll want a printer that offers individual cartridges for each color - cyan, magenta, yellow and black. Unlike the two-cartridge system, this system allows for each color to be replaced independently as it runs out. In addition, the cartridges for these types of printers are usually larger, so they don't need to be replaced as frequently.

NEW VS. AFTERMARKET

Using compatible or remanufactured products rather than new name brand ink and toner is the best approach to keeping printing costs down.

Inkjets.com provides a wide assortment of affordable alternatives to high-cost printer ink. Each remanufactured ink cartridge may not appear exactly like the originals, but they are fully compatible with the same printers, contain higher ink levels, and use the same high quality ink as the OEM.

With an enormous selection of in stock products, Inkjets.com has the ink you're looking for at a price that can't be beat!

WHY DOES PRINTER INK AND TONER COST SO MUCH?

Printer manufacturers like HP and Epson frequently sell printers at or below cost and profit from the high-priced branded cartridges they sell at an exorbitant price. Customers are often not aware that it is not necessary to use the expensive branded ink with their printers.

Your printer can deliver the same high quality prints for a fraction of the price. Remanufactured or compatible ink and toner is substantially less expensive, simply because they don't bear the brand name of the big printer companies.

Compatible and remanufactured cartridges are interchangeable, contain more material, and are made of the same or higher-quality materials.

COMPARISON TEST: GENUINE CANON INK CARTRIDGES VS. COMPATIBLE PRINTER INK

PRICE:

We paid $81.01 for five genuine Canon ink cartridges sold directly from Office Depot/Office Max. By comparison, the 5-piece combo pack from Inkjets.com would cost $23.69 in California after normal shipping and tax. That's a savings of more than 70%!

METHOD:

We used the Canon MX922 printer, which is one of the most popular printers, for this challenge. We used Canon genuine PGI-250 (PGBK), CLI-251(Y), CLI-251(M), CLI-251(C) color cartridges, and CLI-251(BK) black cartridges, tested against Inkjets.com's compatible high-yield ink PGI-250XL black cartridges, Cyan CLI-251, Magenta CLI-251, and Yellow CLI-251 color cartridges.

The compatible cartridges are made of translucent plastic, so you can see what's inside. The contents of genuine cartridges are concealed behind non-transparent black plastic.

We utilized the same printer and paper for the comparison to keep things consistent. Before starting our test, we completed a full printer cleaning, auto head alignment, and nozzle check pattern after loading each set of test cartridges.

The five separate prints were then printed using two different print settings: standard and high quality. We replaced the compatible cartridges with the Canon branded ones after we finished the first set of printing and did another calibration. The five prints were produced in two different print settings once more.

THE RESULTS:

After completing the test using the Canon PGI-250 and CLI-251 compatible cartridges versus Canon's branded products, we discovered that the print quality of genuine and compatible ink was virtually identical.
