How to Replace Cartridge(s)

To replace a cartridge for the Brother HL-6180DW, simply follow these steps:

  1. Make sure the machine is turned on.
  2. Press the front cover release button and then open the front cover.
  3. Take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.
  4. Push down the green lock lever and pull the old toner cartridge out of the drum unit assembly.
  5. Remove the new toner cartridge from its packaging.
  6. Hold the new toner cartridge level with both hands and gently rock it side to side to evenly spread toner inside.
  7. Remove protective covering on the new toner cartridge.
  8. Put the new toner cartridge firmly into the drum unit until it locks into place.
  9. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab back and forth several times. Return the tab to the home position.
  10. Insert the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back into the printer.
  11. Close the front cover.
