Why is printer ink so expensive?

How can I check printer ink or toner levels?

There are two ways to check the printer ink or toner levels.

Through the control panel

  • Go to the control panel in Windows
  • Open the Devices and Printers option
  • Right-click the Printer icon
  • In the properties tab, you’ll be able to check the ink or toner level

Through the printer

  • Turn on your printer
  • Press the menu button and find the status or reports option
  • Print the report to see the ink or toner level

How do I remove printer ink from skin?

Getting ink from your skin can sometimes happen when you change your ink or toner cartridges. Fortunately, it’s not that hard to remove. A few drops of tea tree oil on a clean cloth and rubbing it on your skin seem to do the trick quickly. However, if you don’t have tea tree oil available, you can also use rubbing alcohol or baby oil. Hairspray is also good at removing ink from your hands or any other affected areas. Just spray it and let it sit until the ink dissolves, then wash it off.

What is the difference between ink and toner?

Ink is liquid made of water and chemicals, and are tinted with pigments or dyes. These are used by inkjet printers, which spray the ink directly to the page through tiny nozzles.

Toners are fine powders that are composed mostly of polyester and organic compounds. These are used by laserjet printers, which fuse the toner to the page by electrostatically charging it via the laser, then releasing the toner that sticks to the charged parts of the page.

How do I clean my ink cartridge?

Sometimes when you print a document or a photo, it may look smudged, or doesn’t look as good as it should. This may be because of a dirty cartridge. To clean it, remove the cartridges one by one, then wipe the outsides of the cartridge with a paper towel lightly dabbed on isopropyl alcohol. This is to remove any excess ink. To clean the print head, get a wet cotton swab and run it gently along the print head. Lastly, carefully clean the colored circuitry strip with a slightly wet cotton swab. Let the cartridge sit for a few minutes to make sure there’s no water on the cartridge. To be sure, you may wipe the cartridge with dry cotton swabs.

How do I fix “Cartridge not recognized” error?

When you see this error, you may try turning the printer off, and turning it on again. If this doesn’t work, it might be because the cartridge wasn’t installed properly. To fix this, turn off your printer and remove all the cartridges one by one. Reinstall them and make sure to listen for a clicking sound while installing them to indicate that the cartridge is properly installed. You may contact our customer service for assistance.

What is page yield?

Page yield is the estimated number of pages a printer ink or toner cartridge could print if the conditions are perfect. Depending on the user printing, many variables can affect the page yield such as how much they are printing in a specific color, and how much of the page is covered in ink. When manufacturers are testing, they are getting the estimated number by printing at 5% coverage. This means they are printing with only 5% of the page covered in ink, and continuing to do so until the ink runs out. This is how manufacturers reach the number of pages a printer cartridge will yield IF under the right conditions.

What is ISO page yield?

To have a standardized testing among manufactured cartridges, the International Organization for Standardization or most commonly referred to IOS came up with a standard test page for different cartridges and printers. Two of its most common test pages are the ISO/IEC 19752 for mono cartridges and ISO/IEC 19798 for color cartridges.

What is ink capacity?

Cartridges can be in standard or high capacity. Standard cartridges are cheaper than high capacity. However, it contains less ink. If you are concerned with cost per page, high capacity is more economical due to its higher ink volume, which can give more prints.

What are the cartridge types available in Inkjets?

There are two types of cartridges available in Inkjets – remanufactured and compatible. As its name implies, remanufactured cartridges are repurposed cartridges that are thoroughly cleaned and equipped with new components, particularly chip contacts, and filled with new ink. The latter, on the other hand, is a brand-new cartridge made specifically to follow the specifications and requirements of its compatible printer.

Will your products void my printer warranty?

What is the shelf life of your cartridges?

Ink cartridge and laser toner depending on the product are generally good for approximately 18 months to 2 years if stored properly.

What is an Inkjets.com Brand inkjet compatible cartridge?

A remanufactured cartridge is a cartridge that has been recycled to meet or exceed OEM standards. It has been inspected for any defects and refilled with ink.

How do I find the correct cartridge for my printer?

To find the correct cartridge for your printer simply type the printer model or cartridge number into our "search" box. You can also find the correct cartridge or printer by clicking on any of the OEM brands we have listed on our home page. Do you sell laser toner?

Yes, we sell our Inkjets.com brand remanufactured and compatible laser toner. At this time we do not carry any product from the OEM brands listed on our website. For example, the compatible inkjet cartridges or laser toner listed under the Brother name are all either compatible or remanufactured. How do I place an order?

Orders can be placed online, by phone, or mail. Note: We are prohibited from accepting "walk in" or "will call" orders.

How do I create an account online?

You can create an online account simply by placing your first online order. After doing so, you can log in for "Quick Reorder" of the products you ordered previously.

How do I edit my account information?

To edit your account information, you must log in in to your Inkjets.com account. Click on Your Account Details or Your Address Book to change any of your information.

What if I forgot my password?

If you have forgotten your password you may select "Forgot your password?" on the login page and a generic password will be sent to your email address.

I am a returning customer, why does your site not recognize my login address?

There are 2 different reasons why your login address may not be recognized. The first is that you may have recently changed your email address. Can I change my email address for login purposes?

Yes, you may change your email address for log in purposes. To do so, please log in to your Inkjets.com account and select the email field to change your email address.

What payment methods do you accept?

For online orders through our website, we accept credit or debit card payments with Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover. We also accept PayPal for online orders. You can view our payment options here.

Can I mail my order to you?

We only accept orders by mail if they are purchase orders for a school or educational institution. They can be mailed to 19850 Nordhoff Place, Chatsworth, CA 91311, or you can email us a copy of the purchase order to support@inkjets.com. Any other orders mailed in that are not purchase orders will not be processed.

When will my credit card be charged?

Once your order has been successfully placed wtih us, your credit card or debit card will be charged immediately.

Can I get a copy of my invoice?

Yes, you can print a copy of your invoice after you have checked out online. You will also receive autoresponders with your order confirmation, order tracking and other communication, keeping you up to date on your order. We welcome you to contact customer service at 1-972-200-3813 or by email at support@inkjets.com and we will send you a copy. A copy will also be contained within your package.

What does "back order" mean?

"Back order" means that your product is not currently in stock but has been ordered. This will be noted on the product detail page which would prevent users from being able to check out and pay. However, we go through great lengths in ensuring our product do not go on back order because we know our customers depend on us.

What shipping methods do you offer?

We offer multiple shipping options through USPS, FedEx and UPS – standard USPS or FedEx SmartPost will be used for orders that qualify for free shipping (typically 3-8 business-day delivery.) You can find our shipping options here.

How much is my shipping?

Standard Flat Rate Shipping is $3.95 for all orders in the 48 contiguous United States. Shipping is FREE for all states other than Hawaii and Alaska (as well as other U.S. territories) if you place an order with a minimum value of $30 or greater. Shipping rates only apply for orders under $30. Starting rates are: Standard ground - $3.95. For bigger orders that qualify for free shipping Inkjets.com may decide to ship your order via FedEx or UPS, but solely based on our decision. We offer expedited shipping through FedEx for an additional charge if you need your order on a rush basis.

Do you ship internationally?

Inkjets.com only ships to the US, its territories, and US military/diplomatic addresses. However, we are soon expanding into Canada and beyond.

Do you offer Saturday delivery?

Yes, we do offer delivery for Saturday, but Saturday delivery is not guranteed. Packages may arrive on the next business day. At this time we can only ship via USPS on Saturday's excluding any national holiday weekends. Please do not place any UPS Overnight or 2nd Day orders on Friday, Sundays or on National Holidays if you expect the order to ship on the same day which you placed the order.

I just placed my order, when will it ship?

Typically, orders placed before 3:00pm Pacific Standard Time will be shipped the same day. If your order is placed after 3:00pm on a Friday or before a holiday, it will be shipped the next business day.

How do I track my order?

Once your order ships, we will send you a Shipment Notification via email. This notice will include the tracking number and a link directing you to the carrier’s website. You may also track your package by logging onto our website - all information about your most online recent order is available once you have logged in.

If my order is on "back order", when will it ship?

We rarely have back orders. If by chance your order does contain a back ordered item, we will call or email you to find out if you would like to wait for the product back ordered to arrive or if you would like us to refund you for the product that's on back order. We understand that there is a high probability you need your product right away when you place an order. We go through great lengths in making sure we carry all products listed on the site and if ever there is an issue, we feel the best approach is to allow you to decide on the best course of action.

Troubleshooting

Why does my printer say “low on ink” after replacing my ink cartridge?

Your printer may not recognize the correct ink levels because it is holding the memory from the previously used cartridges. However, a printer reset should resolve the recognition problem. To reset your printer please follow these instructions:

  • Remove ALL cartridges
  • Turn off printer
  • Unplug the printer from the power source for a full 10 minutes
  • Reverse steps. Plug back in, turn on printer and install all cartridges.

What is the best way to clean ink off of my carpet or clothes?

Ink stains are tough to get out but a few suggestions we have worth trying are; nail polish remover (with acetone), rubbing alcohol, oxy products, and if your clothing is white, bleach. When cleaning ink off of your clothing be sure to use cold water since warm water will set the stain. Note: Before cleaning any stain be sure to test for color fastness and cleaner compatibility in an inconspicuous area of the material, prior to treating the entire stain.

How should I clean my printer if a cartridge spills or leaks?

To clean spilled ink out of your printer, turn off your printer first and unplug it. Dampen a lint free cloth and gently wipe the nozzles and surrounding areas where the ink may have spilled. This is also the best way to clean nozzles on which you have dried ink. We DO NOT recommend using any type of household cleaning fluid.

Why is printer ink so expensive?

It is a common misconception that printer inks have to be expensive. High quality photos and documents can be produced with very affordable compatible inks and remanufactured inks. HOW CAN I CHECK PRINTER INK OR TONER LEVELS?

Ink or toner levels can be checked in two ways.

Using the control panel:

  • In Windows, open the control panel
  • Select Devices and Printers from the menu
  • Select the Printer icon with the right click
  • You'll be able to check the level of ink or toner in the properties tab

Using the printer:

  • Your printer should be turned on
  • Navigate to the status or reports option by pressing the menu button
  • To check ink or toner levels, print the report

HOW DO I REMOVE PRINTER INK FROM SKIN?

When you change your ink or toner cartridges, you can sometimes get ink on your skin. Fortunately, removing it is not that difficult. Applying a few drops of tea tree oil to a clean cloth and rubbing it on your skin seems to work quickly.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INK AND TONER?

Inks are colored liquids made from water and chemicals that contain pigments and dyes. The ink is sprayed directly onto a page by tiny nozzles in inkjet printers.

Toners are fine powders composed primarily of polyesters and organic compounds. The toner is fused to the page by electrostatically charging it via the laser in a laser printer. The toner then sticks to the charged portions of the page, fusing it to the print

HOW DO I CLEAN MY INK CARTRIDGE?

There are times when printed documents or photos look smudged or don't print as well as they should. The culprit may be a dirty cartridge. To clean it, pull out each cartridge and wipe the outside of each one with a paper towel dipped in isopropyl alcohol. This will remove any excess ink. Next, use a wet cotton swab to clean the print head by gently rubbing it along the print head. Then, use a slightly wet cotton swab to clean the colored circuitry strip. Make sure there is no water on the cartridge by letting it sit for a few minutes. A dry cotton swab can be used to ensure that the cartridge is clean.

HOW DO I FIX THE “CARTRIDGE NOT RECOGNIZED” ERROR?

It may be helpful to turn the printer off, then back on if you encounter this error. There may have been an issue with the cartridge installation if this doesn't work. It can be fixed by turning off your printer and removing each cartridge one by one. When re-installing them again, notice whether a clicking sound occurs to indicate the cartridge has been properly installed. Please contact our customer service if you continue to have problems.

WHAT IS PAGE YIELD?

The page yield is the estimate of the number of pages an ink or toner cartridge would be able to print under ideal conditions. Several factors can affect the yield of a printing job, such as the amount of ink used, the color selected, and how much of the page is covered with ink. For testing purposes, manufacturers print at 5% coverage to estimate the number. By printing this way, they cover only 5% of each page with ink. They do this until their ink runs out. Manufacturers use this method to determine how many pages a printer cartridge will produce, given the right conditions.

WHAT IS ISO PAGE YIELD?

IOS, or the International Organization for Standardization, came up with a standard test page for different cartridges and printers to provide a standardized testing for manufactured cartridges. When stored properly, laser toner and ink cartridges generally last between 18 months and 2 years. To prolong the life of your ink or toner cartridges and bottles, keep them in a cool, dry place, and keep them away from direct sunlight.

We offer our customers a variety of shipping options from USPS, FedEx, and UPS. Orders with free shipping will be delivered via USPS or FedEx SmartPost (usually 3-8 business days). Expedited shipping options are available for an additional fee. You can view our shipping options here.

HOW MUCH IS MY SHIPPING?

Free Shipping on all orders over $30 within the contiguous 48 states. Orders under $30 are subject to shipping rates. Prices start at $4.99 for standard ground shipping. Expedited shipping options are available for an additional fee.

DO YOU SHIP INTERNATIONALLY?

We only ship to the US, US territories, and US military/diplomatic addresses. However, we will soon expand to other countries.

HOW DO I TRACK MY ORDER?

Our system will notify you by email once your order ships. You will find a tracking number and a link directing you to the carrier's website in the notice. Alternatively, you can track your package on our website. You'll be able to see all the details of your most recent online purchase once you've logged into your account.

IF MY ORDER IS ON "BACK ORDER", WHEN WILL IT SHIP?

We know our customers need their orders delivered fast. In the event that a backorder does occur in your order, we will contact you to ask if you would like to wait for the backordered product to arrive or if you would like a refund for that item.

If your order has already been shipped, we cannot cancel it; but it may be returned once it has been received for a refund. Please call or send us a message if you wish to receive a refund.

The Inkjets.com customer service team will be happy to provide you with a replacement product or offer you a full refund if you are unsatisfied. Our 1-Year money back policy excludes OEM productsand refurbished printers. InkJets.com accepts returns of all OEM products within 30 days of purchase for a refund, or for replacement. HOW DO I RETURN MY PRODUCT?

If you would like to return a product from Inkjets.com, please contact our customer service department by calling 1-972-200-3813 or by email at support@inkjets.com, and obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number before returning the product. We can then track your return and make sure that you receive credit and have a satisfactory resolution, regardless of the reason you are returning the item.

WHAT IF I RECEIVED THE WRONG PRODUCT?

In the event that you ever receive the wrong product, please contact our customer service department by calling 1-972-200-3813 or by email at support@inkjets.com. The correct product will be sent out immediately along with a prepaid return label to retrieve the incorrect product.

TROUBLESHOOTING

WHY DOES MY PRINTER SAY “LOW ON INK” AFTER REPLACING MY INK CARTRIDGE?

There is a possibility that your printer does not recognize the correct ink levels due to stored memory from previously used cartridges. You can resolve this issue by resetting your printer. Follow these steps to do so: • In Windows, open the control panel • All cartridges should be removed • Shut down the printer • Allow the printer to rest for a few minutes without being plugged in • Plug the printer back in, turn it on and reinstall all cartridges.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CLEAN INK OFF OF MY CARPET OR CLOTHES?

If you need help with ink stains, we recommend nail polish remover (with acetone), rubbing alcohol, oxy products, and bleach if your clothing is white. Use cold water when cleaning ink stains from your clothes, as warm water will set them. Always test the colorfastness and compatibility of any cleaner on an inconspicuous piece of the material before treating the entire stain.

HOW SHOULD I CLEAN MY PRINTER IF A CARTRIDGE SPILLS OR LEAKS?

First, turn off and unplug your printer to clean out spilled ink. Use a damp lint-free cloth to wipe the nozzles and surrounding areas.You can also use this method to clean nozzles that have dried ink on them. Avoid using household cleaning fluids.
